My Husband the Deal Killer!

I love my husband....really I do..but I have to say that guy is a "Deal Killer"! I'm venting here because I know only a fellow couponer could understand my frustrations! Luckily my husband does not read this blog so I can speak freely.

Here's what I have to deal with:
  • Take this guy to the grocery store and he will pile the cart high with stuff I don't have coupons for and that we could live without until I find a great deal on it! My careful calculations for the lowest OOP and coupon clipping goes to hell in a hand basket!

  • Take him to a local restaurant with a BOGO Entree coupon....he'll order 2 beers and an appetizer and kill the deal!

  • Send him to the store with coupons he'll forget to use them. How do I know? I find them crumbled up with the store receipt and get an "oh, yeah I forgot you gave me those"....AAARRRGGHH!

  • He needs a few things from Lowes? Home Depot? No problem "here's a gift card says I". I often turn in our Discover Card rewards for Gift Cards for just such occasions. He'll get home and tell me I put in on the debit card....what about the gift card I ask? Oh yeah....I forgot you gave me that....OMG!

  • Send him to the store for ONE thing he comes home with a sack of "deals" he has found. As I'm the deal expert around here I have to tell him, Honey, that's not a deal they're selling those for half the price this week up the street. Often I let it slide because he's so freakin excited, then secretly return it when I think he won't notice and go up the street and buy it for half the price....ssssh...he doesn't know I do that. The things I do to protect his ego!
Do your husbands do the same? I realize I'm a bit fanatical when it comes to being frugal, and can be slightly obsessive with getting the lowest OOP...but this guy is killing me!

Haha that all sounds so familiar! Its so funny when my hubby comes home and tells me he used a coupon when I had a higher value coupon for that item and he's so excited, I just say Good Job! Even though inside I cant stop thinking about how I could've saved even $0.50 more! That or he goes to the store for 1 thing, forgets the 1 thing he was supposed to get and seems to buy things we don't even need or are way over priced. I am also obsessive with paying as little as I can out of pocket but sometimes I just give him credit for trying..

That is too funny!! I relate..I have since stopped shopping with him and try as much as possible to get the "requests" that he makes..even my boys, 17,7,and 5 know not to ask for things at the grocery store unless there is a coupon or at least on sale, and then it is not a for sure thing that they are going to get it..I know all about the drinks with dinner (or breakfast)the boys and I order water with a lemon in it..he orders the soda with Captain Morgain in it!! It is too funny that your husband and mine sound so much alike, but I can`t tell him not to get what he wants because " I work my butt off all week while you stay home," so he is the "king" and the "king" gets what he wants!! I also like to vent because he does not know I do it! lol So, don`t feel alone, I am sure there are plenty of other women that can relate also!

Haha this is totally my boyfriend! He always loses the coupons I give him... I've started doing a bunch of his shopping for him because we've both decided that he's coupon impaired. You aren't the only one!

Well, I am a frugal queen myself - but the way I see it - I do all that clipping, etc so that my family can enjoy a few little extras every now and then. If my hubby wants to throw things in the cart or buy an appetizer because we are saving money on an entree, it doesn't bother me a bit.

I actually send my hubby to do a lot of deals! The cashiers love him for some reason and he never has a problem with "like" coupons or limits or any of the made up rules that cashiers like to throw at us!

AHHAAHAHAH ROTFL! Perfectly described my dh. I can't even bring dd/3 yr. old to Target anymore b/c usually when he takes her, he gets lunch there with her and a $12 toy...and then I will already have a very similar toy in dd's closet from a garage sale (waiting to give it to her when she is bored with her current toys.) Last weekend I gave him a stack of $1/1 Rayovac battery coupons to check to see if they had them in the $1 spot when he went to Target. Now I see no batteries and no coupons back for me?!?!?! I forgot to ask for them back. Also he was going to have dd hold one of them that was an IP. I said no, that is like $$$ and it won't scan if wrinkled. Uh oh well, at least he is the one earning the $ and he loves doing things with dd that gives me a break to myself on Saturdays.

PS Oh yea, and I think of my deal savings now as giving me extra $ to do fun stuff with dd, go to McDonnalds once a week, etc. things we could not do as much when we were using the extra $ to pay off credit card and the car.

When my husband and I first met he didn't know anything about being frugal, after 8 long years he finally got it and there are times he comes home with really awesome deals. It also helps that he is a grocery store manager so he knows in advance when deals are coming.

He is soo funny and proud of himself when he comes home with a deal, he will say "now bow before the frugal king" or "who's the frugal one, I am, uhuh, thats it, it's me".

Being frugal has become a very humourist game in our house
